I operate several small and medium sized hydroponic grow tents and i needed to install an exhaust fan into my new tent which I’m using to grow strawberries. What Is The LED Wholesalers GYO2401 6-Inch 206 CFM Air Duct In-line Centrifugal Hydroponic Exhaust Fan And How Does It Work?
Well put simply, it’s a fan that will remove all the hot, humid and CO2 depleted air from your hydroponic garden.
Why do you need to remove the air from your hydroponic garden?
The beauty of hydroponics is that we control the entire ambiance and conditions of the plants we grow. We make things optimum for our plants so they thrive and grow incredibly fast.
Part of this process is removing the used air from around the plants. Plant leaves use up CO2 incredibly quickly, which is great as it shows they’re healthy. However, once this air is used up and becomes depleted, we will need to remove it and pump in new air rich in CO2 to enable the plants to continue thriving.
This is all part of the air circulation process which we encourage for hydroponics. Without circulation, you’ll have dead zones of bad air at lower levels and hot layers of air at the top of your room or tent.
The LED Wholesalers GYO2401 has a propeller which operates in a similar fashion to that of a jet airplane. It moves air from one side to the other, and it does so quickly, quietly and efficiently.
Since all hot air rises, i cut a hole as high up in my tent as i could get. I then thread 3 feet of flexible ducting through the hole. One tip is to try and keep the ducting as straight as possible, if you do need to bend the ducting then try and do it as gradually as possible. Any 90 degree bends can cause up to 60% loss of air transmission. As stated above, you really do need to try and get your ducting installed as high as possible. I attached the ducting to the GYO2401 and placed it on a ledge right up to the tent.
Not only does this wonderful fan remove depleted air from my grow tent, it also assists in cooling the tent as well, as the hydroponic grow lights generate lots of heat.
Things To Look For In A Hydroponic Exhaust Fan
Does it move the air?
Clearly this is the main purpose for needing an exhaust fan, if it doesn’t remove the air from your tent, grow room or greenhouse then it’s useless. This fan does indeed remove the air, in fact it does so incredibly well. It is listed as moving air at 206 CFM (cubic feet per minute) however, as many other people have stated on Amazon, it does indeed feel like it’s removing quite a bit more air than this.
Is it quiet?
This may not be an issue for everybody! I keep two tents in my basement and then i have a large greenhouse as well, so noise is not really an important issue for me. However i do know of one person who keeps his tent in a spare room in his house and noise is an issue.
The LED Wholesalers GYO2401 is quiet indeed, however some people have commented that it is a little too noisy. This may be an issue for you dependant on your circumstances.
Is it energy efficient?
We all need to keep costs low in order to be profitable. The fan operates at 130 watts so not very much power at all.

Any Complaints?
As i mentioned above, a couple of reviewers have complained about the noise. You will need to decide if this is an issue for you.
One reviewer pointed out it would be useful if it had speed control, there are only the two settings for this fan, off and on. You can of course purchase a fan speed controller separately if you wish, however this was not a concern for me.
